Colorado no smoking law
Governor Bill Owens signed Colorado’s no smoking law. The much awaited law will go into effect July 1, 2006. The law isn’t "perfect" as there are still a few public places were smoking will be allowed, but considering the number of places where smoking was allowed and is no longer, it’s a good start.
Here’s to a healthy Colorado population!

I am the Manager at this Days Inn in Lamar, CO. This place had been changed to all non-smoking rooms. They are a headache and a fire risk. I need to know what the policy/law is for smoking in non-smoking designated areas. Smokers smoke in the rooms that had not ever been smoked in before and say they did not know. We tell smokers to smoke outside. Some stay and some go. Then there are some who abuse it.
What can we do? How far can we go at the Property level? HELP!!!
Smoking in a non-smoking designated area is called abusing the situation. Motels/Hotels are big for doing that, the added fees and all, when smokers smoke in non-smoking rooms. How far can they really go with the fees anyway? I’m Not A Smoker.
Hi Gwen ~ I can see why this would be a problem in your line of work. You want ALL your guests to be happy, but not at the expense of others. Smoking is one of those habits that the person who smokes doesn’t understand how offensive it is to a non-smoker.
We have a place where the smokers congregate in our 10 story office building. I can tell you it radiates a bad odor all the time.
Getting in the elevator with the folks who frequent it, is also not pleasant.
As per what you can do? We just traveled to Las Vegas, staying several nights in a variety of hotels. I noticed smokers are assessed a sur-charge on their credit cards if they are caught smoking in the room.
I have no idea if this is a deterent, or if it is even legal. Perhaps you have more knowledge of it. Personally I would never smoke where I was not welcome. OF course I don’t smoke and never have.
