It happened again, a home inspection I was attending uncovered the lack of “anti-tipping” devices in the oven. Most people would never think to look for something like this but my home inspector found it as a matter of routine.
The danger of not having an anti-tipping device appears when small children are around. How often to little kids playing in the kitchen, open the oven to use it as a ladder to climb on the counter? Typically they don’t attempt this when an adult is present, but turn your back and next thing you know the little mountain goat is climbing!
I shudder to think of the injury they might suffer if their weight causes the oven to topple over! Better be safe than sorry and be certain that this simple device is connected and working properly to prevent any injury to the little ones!
