Colorado Cycling

Call them what you wish, Denver has some of the most incredible bike, hike, walk, jog or skate paths in the country. Miles and miles of paths connect different sections of the city. For the most part it is possible to never travel on the street, a bike path will take you for as many miles as you plan to log.

When Larry and I were training for our bike trip around the world, we would do a 50 mile loop circling from Douglas County to Denver over to Jefferson County and back home, using the Highline Canal, Cherry Creek and Platte River Trails. This outing usually included a great breakfast somewhere in Lodo or along the 16th Street Mall. Then on the way home, we would be captured by the aroma of the Hot Dog Stand along the bike path at Hudson Gardens.

Even though we logged a lot of miles on those morning trips, most folks were there to do much less. It doesn’t matter if you are a long distance road runner or a parent out for an hour with the tots, everyone is welcome on the Denver bike paths.

If you have more than a day and a desire to "get away" I suggest going to the mountains. It used to be the most popular activities occurred in the winter months. Now in the summer those sleepy mountain towns have turned into 4 season resorts. By building a bike path connecting Breckenridge to Vail (and beyond)the mountains have created additional recreation for folks.
