As a Nigerian that has been living in Denver for about 3yrs,It is really disheartening to read stories like this but most times we have to look deeply into this phenomenon for i do find fault on both sides of the coin
to me it is just plain greed going all around for when a deal looks too good to be true,we always tend to stay around and muddle our accounts up simply because that greedy aspect of the human being takes over and we tend to loose all sense of reasoning.
Do not get me wrong, what some of these Nigerians are doing is totally disgraceful but we should always try to get to the end of issues before we start labelling anything that have got to do with scams "Nigerian" afterall,MADDOFF is not and never wll be Nigerian,
All countries on earth have their unscruppulous elements but generalizing that nation in that pronoun is totally wrong for I never generalized Americans as a land of racism, serial killers and burger eating smogs despite the local media back home feeding you such deficiencies.
Guess what I am trying to ramble about is that
1 whoever falls for these scams should equally be blamed
(No one has an oil well in his/her backyard)how ppl fall for this beats my imagination
2 Scams happen everywhere,Nigerians probably made it popular but its a general thing nowadays(Foreigners living in nigeria who scam ppl also
3 Most Nigerians are hardworking, honest and openly loving people, lets try and dwell on that aspect a lil bit more for no country on earth is perfect

Bob ~ I am so glad your nose was able to smell a BAD DEAL! What an annoying hassle to have to spend time on.

I hope you and your wife have found a nice, RELIABLE place to rent!

Happy Holidays to you!

Here's how it works; I experienced it first hand: I am new in the Denver area and was looking for a place to rent on Craigslist. I found what seemed like a fantastic deal in Wash Park. I sent an email to the poster. My wife drove by and got the listing agent's phone number. She was getting crazy calls all week. A few hours later, I received an email back from the poster and sure enough, a Nigerian scammer. They included a full application with the email and an address where to send it with my first and last month's rent. I immediately sent the information to the listing agent, and filed a fraud complaint with Craigslist.

LOL! Good for the listing agent. I wonder if the one who lost her license knew she was in violation? So many agents are unsupervised and totally clueless these days.

It's not just the Nigerians that are using Craigs List. A local Atlanta agent would put another agents listed properties on Craigs List as her own in an attempt to generate buyers for the property. First off that is an ethics violation for advertising the property listed with another broker without written authorization. A buyer that I was working with emailed me a link to the property on Craigs List and when I accessed the actual listing, Bingo, different listing agent. To say the least the listing agent did not appreciate what this unethical agent was doing.

NOTE: The unethical agent is now seeking employment in a different field. It's hard to work in real estate without a license.
