Statewide Colorado Fun Fun

Colorado has so many activities for people of all ages. If you planned a different event every weekend for an entire year, you still couldn’t take in the entire state! I will attempt to name some activities but if you have some you enjoy, by all means send me a short description and better yet a photo of you and the family enjoying Colorado! I will be more than happy to post it here on the web for all the world to see!

Colorado has history!

My husband Larry and I work in the same business. That means we don’t often get time off, together. When we do we enjoy exploring places we haven’t been before. Recently Larry decided he wanted to go to La Junta. Now many will ask "Why?" including myself, but you have to know my husband, he likes to drive and he loves history. So off to La Junta we went.

We discovered a very nice, thriving town on the eastern plains. We dined at a great Mexican restaurant, with terrific margaritas. When the bill came, I truly realized we weren’t in Denver anymore! It was so cheap, I thought the waitress had made a mistake. She didn’t it was right!

In the morning we visited Bent’s Old Fort, a National Historic Site that has been restored to it’s near original state. In 1833 the brothers William and Charles Bent built a fort on this site to trade with the Indians and trappers.

In it’s age, it was quite a place, as the only permanent white settlement on the Santa Fe Trail, this side of Missouri.

We watched a movie about the Fort’s history and then enjoyed exploring it for awhile. My imagination ran wild, just thinking about how tough those people must have been. Out here in the wilderness, they managed to tame a small piece out for themselves, and making a living while making history.
