Commuters will be delighted to know the long wait is over. The gala week long celebrations of RTD’s light rail have ended, today the light rail goes into service.
RTD has added 19 miles of new light rail service, 13 new light rail stations, 11 new bus routes, 10 new or expanded call-in-rides, 12 new park-n-ridges and nearly 7,000 new parking spaces.

We got our first light rail in Minneapolis a couple years ago. I was a skeptic although I really loved the mass transit in Chicago. It seems the “Hiawatha line” has been successful (that means people are riding, not that it is paying for itself!) and a new line is proposed for 2011 to connect the Twin Cities’ downtowns. That will be a great boon for commuters. The one thing we need in our metro is a good transit system.
